3 Proven Ways to Beat the Summer Sales Slump
Jul 31, 2025
Feeling the summer slump? 😩 Don’t worry – I’ve got you.
In the beauty industry, we usually see a dip in sales during the summer. I remember staring at our numbers in July and August, wondering what was going on, and then realizing... oh right. People are at the beach. They're traveling. They're not as focused on buying serums - they did that in May.
It used to feel frustrating – but over the years, I learned how to work with the slump instead of against it. We tested all kinds of ideas, and the ones below were the most effective at giving our numbers a bump when we needed it most.
Here are 3 easy strategies you can try – pick one for August, and it’s sure to give you a little lift:
1️⃣ Add a GWP (Gift With Purchase)
This is my personal favorite – and for good reason. A GWP helps your customers fall in love with something they may not have tried otherwise (and hopefully will buy again in the future!) 💕.
Think:
-
Travel-size body lotion or butter
-
Eye gel or eye cream
-
A mini mask or face scrub
Mini sizes are perfect here – no need to go full-size. Bonus: if it’s a universal product (aka, easy for most folks to use), even better.
2️⃣ Offer Free Shipping 📦
Yep – we all love it. And it works.
You can offer free shipping for a limited time –
-
With any purchase (simple + effective)
-
For orders over a certain amount
The key here is urgency. Try “Free shipping for the next 48 hours” or “Today only!” Set a clear start and end – it gets people to move. Honestly, you need urgency for any of these so keep that in mind.
3️⃣ Run a Focused Sale 💸
Not feeling a full site-wide promo? No problem.
Instead, do a flash sale on one category:
-
Serums
-
Lip products
-
Bath & body goodies
It’s a smart way to spotlight items, get them moving, and still protect your margins (better yet, only do it on something you have GREAT margins on).
The summer slump is real – but it doesn’t have to sink your August. Pick one and run it this month – it will move the needle.
You’ve got this.
